And they do, in the end he is acquitted and a free man. In the end, Matthew McConaughey asks the jury to imagine this had all happened to a white girl, and to channel those feelings into acquitting Jackson of his crimes. But what I want to discuss is the ending. The KKK starts up again and starts protesting in front of the courthouse and it becomes a huge racial issue. Because he murdered two people in front of God and everybody without even trying to let the system put them away first.

The movie then turns into a court room drama about Jackson's murder trial. So before they are even tried he camps out in the court house over night with an M16 and as they are being escorted into the courtroom he comes out and murders both of them. They are arrested, but Jackson is afraid they are going to be acquitted because of the racism seeded in the system at the time in Mississippi. The premise of the movie is that Sam Jackson's daughter is kidnapped and raped by two drunk good ol' boys. And it was directed by Joel Schumacher who, despite his hit or miss filmography, is a pretty big name in directing.īut the ending always made me raise an eyebrow.
